My first blog post :)

There are so many great craft blogs out there and so many wonderful ones that I follow. I have received countless amounts of inspiration from crochet and quilting/sewing blogs that has encouraged me to take risks and not be afraid to try new things. For a little background on me - I am 26, originally from Texas, although currently misplaced in Florida. My husband is in the Air Force and is stationed here. I love crafts of all sorts, although mostly crocheting and sewing. I also love reading and movies and spend much of my time crafting in front of the tv watching as many movies as possible. I love mustaches (to a potentially unhealthy level) and green and blue and yellow and red and well all the colors/rainbows are my favorites. :) I had always loved the idea of quilting - I even started my first quilt at age 11, although the pattern I choose was so complicated, I never got very far. I think I made two lopsided squares and then decided it was way more trouble than it was worth. While I learned to sew at a very young age at my grandma's house, she focused on apparel and was also over her head trying to help me with my complicated quilt dreams. I had also always loved the idea of crocheting (my other grandmother made beautiful blankets that I grew up cuddling under), but I never had the opportunity to learn from her. Once we moved to northwest Florida, one of my best friends encouraged me to go to the local yarn shop and take a crochet class to finally learn. I was immediately hooked and in the last two years have made countless blankets, toys, and trinkets. This past summer, after reading a million quilt blog posts, I decided to finally stop being scared to try it and finally got my first quilt finished (and then my second and third and fourth..) I have loved getting to read through other people's crafting journeys, which brings me to this - my first blog post. I have always been a very introverted and very quiet person, which makes it easy for me to read and feel connected to the online quilt and crochet community without actually participating. But one of my current goals for myself is to participate more and try to be more connected with others who share my passions. I've been very lucky in the local area to get to know several knitters through the local yarn shop (which has sadly now closed), but fortunately I have made great connections through that source. Now I feel ready to put myself out there online as well and get more involved in all of the wonderful social aspects to the crafting community. I'm just going to take things one step at a time. ;) I'm having trouble figuring out this whole adding photos to a blog thing...also have been having trouble figuring out flickr. Hopefully I can figure those out and get photos posted next time!
